The Westridge Gardens is on the western side of Mitchells Plain, which is located about 20 km from the Cape Town city centre. It is one of South Africa's largest townships and Cape Town's largest with a population of about 1 500 000 people. Mitchells Plain is located on the Cape Flats on the False Bay coast between Strandfontein and Khayelitsha. It was conceived of as a ‘model township’ by the apartheid government, and built during the 1970s to provide housing for coloured victims of forced removal due to the implementation of the Group Areas Act.

The public open space in Westridge Gardens can be hired for events and small functions, and is frequently used for weddings and children’s parties. 

 

To accommodate everyone, designated areas have been allocated for the 
following:

• Areas 1 to 4 for wedding ceremonies, wedding photographs
• Areas 4 to 14 for children’s parties
• Application for major events and concerts must be done at least three weeks

  in advance.

• Vast open lawns and trees 

• Indigenous Dune
