Eight tracing operations led to the arrest of 218 suspects in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town last week, as part of an effort to crackdown on gangsterism and drugs, said Western Cape police on Monday.

Fifty-four houses were searched for drugs, which lead to the arrest of 127 suspects. A total of 400 heroin units, 268 parcels of tik, 172 mandrax tablets and 119 grams of marijuana were confiscated.

In one operation, police acting on a tip-off raided a house in

Eastridge believed to be storing drugs. Police confiscated 80

packets of tik and ammunition. Two suspects aged 63 and 35

were arrested.

In another, police on patrol in Cumulus Street, Rockland, noticed

a suspicious vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and found an

illegal firearm. A 19-year old man was arrested.

Two road blocks were also conducted which led to seven fines

being issued with a value of R4 000.

“These successes are a reflection of good co-operation that

exists between the community of Mitchell’s Plain Cluster and the South African Police Service,” said the police.
